Del. Brandon Steele (R) resigns from WV House, effective immediately

Del. Brandon Steele, an attorney by trade who represented the Beckley area in the state House of Delegates and who often gave impassioned speeches during legislative proceedings, resigned from his elected position on Thursday.

He submitted his resignation through a letter sent to the House Clerk before 9 a.m. on Thursday, according to House Communications Director Ann Ali. In the letter, he said the resignation was effective immediately.

Steele, a Republican, told Lootpress — an online publication he founded in 2020 and continues to own — that his resignation was necessary due to “professional opportunities” arising that would “interfere” with his work in the House.

He said he was “honored” to serve his constituents and will “always cherish the time” he spent in the body.
