FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - It was back in 2006 when an upstart coach named Rich Rodriguez took West Virginia to the Georgia Dome.
He made a name for himself. Put WVU in college football's national spotlight.
Today, first-year coach Dana Holgorsen and West Virginia have a similar opportunity against Clemson in the 8 p.m. Orange Bowl at Sun Life Stadium - with a twist. That twist is pulling off this upset shouldn't be as difficult.
Winning certainly won't be easy. And if you predict WVU will get blown out, no one will laugh. Clemson won the Atlantic Coast Conference in style, defeating Sugar Bowl participant Virginia Tech by 38-10. The Tigers, in fact, beat the Hokies twice this season, also winning 23-3. They also defeated teams like Auburn, last season's national champ, and Florida State. Have an impressive resume and impressive athletes.

Remember that gutsy punt fake against Georgia that clinched the 2006 Sugar Bowl win? Heh heh.

How stupid do you need to be to work for ESPN? I thought Rush Lameballs proved how stupid years ago, but the other fool Brad, Shitforbrains proved it again on ESPN last night.
Brad Dumkopf must have been on the shit that Rush's housekeeper dealt, all the way through his American History classes.
That crap last night alone, should fire up the Eers enough to want put WEST VIRGINIA on everybody's map, buy kicking the mortal shit, out of the Paper Tigers, on both sides of the ball, tonight on ESPN...

(28,370 posts)But I don't think we'll be outmatched as the OP article implies. They're champs of their conference, but the ACC doesn't seem to be that tough based on their bowl games this season. The ACC is 2-5 with one more game to go (against us tonight). Only one other conference has performed worse this year in bowl games.

But the Tigers didn't get to the top of their conference by being mediocre. The Mountaineers will have to play their best game of the season if they are to prevail.

I liked the one last night. I'll bet Rich Rod was pulling for VT. His old team plays a lot better without him around screaming at the kids.

Halftime: WVU 49, Clemson 20
But I think most people believed Clemson would be ahead.

It would have been 70 Clemson 9 WV, if the Big East Crew was working the game.
I won't miss those scumbags!
It was a sweet game!
Lou was the only ESPN guy who picked WV to win.

(28,370 posts)We crushed them 70-33! Our team finally played four whole quarters.
I somehow knew you'd still be up. That was WVU's third BCS bowl victory, as I'm sure you know. WVU alone has now won more BCS bowl games than the entire ACC combined.
The Big East has a 3-1 bowl game record at this point in the season, for a .750 winning percentage. Only one conference, the Big 12, has done better.
