Kanawha delegates split by party line on abortion special session
By Phil Kabler, Staff writer

An effort to have legislators petition themselves into a special session for a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks has Kanawha County delegates divided along party lines, with Republicans indicating they have signed the petition, while Democrats have not.

Anti-abortion activists backing the petition drive indicated Friday they are still a few signatures short of the 60 House members needed for a special session.

Delegate Doug Skaff, D-Kanawha, said he supports banning late-term abortions, but said he won’t sign the petition unless there’s agreement on a bill that Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will sign into law.

“Why would you bring everyone in from around the state and waste $30,000 a day on something he’s going to veto?” Skaff said. “I’m for the law, but there’s no point of kicking the same bill down the road if we’re going to have the same result.” - See more at: http://www.wvgazette.com/article/20140530/GZ01/140539933/1419#sthash.uYf6lOFH.dpuf
