In one House of Delegates district dominated by registered Democrats, a Republican candidate holds a commanding campaign fundraising lead.

GOP newcomer Brad White has received $31,650 in campaign contributions in the House 36th District race, according to his latest campaign finance report, filed earlier this month. That’s more money than the rest of the candidates in the general election — three Democrats and two Republicans — have raised altogether.

“I hate that you have to raise money to even be in an election ... but you know what? I want to win,” said White, a Kanawha City insurance salesman.

The state Republican Party is targeting the 36th District as part of a plan to gain control of the House of Delegates for the first time in 85 years. Republicans trail Democrats by six seats in the 100-seat House. - See more at: http://www.wvgazette.com/article/20140530/GZ01/140539982/1137#sthash.Y57g5WRC.dpuf
