Making history? Three gay candidates hold fundraising edge in House races
By Eric Eyre, Staff writer

An openly gay candidate running for the House of Delegates in Greenbrier County has raised more campaign funds this year than any other House office-seeker in West Virginia.

Dr. Coy Flowers has received $82,656 in campaign contributions so far, giving him a huge fundraising advantage over two Republican incumbents in his 42nd District race, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Secretary of State.

Two other openly gay candidates vying for House seats, incumbent Jefferson County Delegate Stephen Skinner and Putnam County realtor Josh McGrath, both Democrats, also hold fundraising leads in their respective races.

The candidates say their fundraising success shouldn’t come as a surprise, even in a state like West Virginia, where 70 percent of voters oppose gay marriage and more than half call themselves conservative, according to a recent poll. - See more at: http://www.wvgazette.com/article/20140525/GZ01/140529518/1137#sthash.IOGtGZNc.dpuf
