It’s about love, say couple who fought ban

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Patty Link and Sheila Chambers like to say they have each been married four times — to each other — and for good reason...

...They celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2001 by going to Vermont for a civil union. They married in Canada a few years later, then in Massachusetts when it became legal there in 2004.

They also count a ceremony that they had at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Charleston as one of their weddings.

It was all in an effort to get the state of West Virginia to recognize their union. They went to the state Supreme Court in 2004 to demand the state do just that....
