Beckley attorney pleads to drug, embezzlement charges

A Beckley attorney entered six pleas Thursday morning in Raleigh County Circuit Court, including drug and embezzlement charges.

Richard E. Hardison Jr., 47, entered a Kennedy plea to delivery of cocaine and conspiracy to commit a felony; he pleaded guilty to three counts of embezzlement and attempt to commit a felony (uttering).

By entering a Kennedy plea, Hardison maintains his innocence, but believes he would fare better by entering a plan rather than at trial.

The embezzlement charges totaled $188,500 from November 2013 through October 2015.
