Related: About this forumWe no longer have our vacation home in Door County.
My husband's niece has bought it and after the legal papers were drawn up and signed by my husband we received her check. It includes a lake, a main house and a guest house. It is very beautiful, but we cannot do the travel to and from there to CT and the house is not handicapped accessible for my disabled husband.
My husband is a bit sad, I can see. But the money he has gotten for this property is pretty amazing and it helps enormously with our budget, which has gotten tighter.
It's good that we kept the property "in the family" tho. I think that's meaningful for him.

So much to see and do in New England and change of scenery now and again may lift spirits all around. (Get help for assisting hubby as needed, family or otherwise.)
Maybe niece will send occasional photos of family enjoying the lake and grounds.

(65,091 posts)The only sad thing is my husband and his sister don't speak to each other. There was a falling out over her second husband who tried to hijack the property my husband owned and it set off a real intra family war. It was an upsetting time. I'm glad this whole thing has been settled. He has a really good relationship with his nieces.

I really enjoyed Door County. I remember doing research for my bi-weekly art essays that I published here on DU. There was a nice library in one of the little towns there where I could do my research quietly....while hubby was off quaffing good Wisconsin beer at a local tavern...good days!
