Brrrr. Lake Michigan's surface temperature is 7 degrees colder than normal for this time of year
This isn't a surprise to everyone who has shivered through this spring in Wisconsin but Lake Michigan's surface temperature is around 7 degrees colder than normal for this time of year.
Lake Michigan water temperatures peak in late summer courtesy of warm air that blows in during July and August. But there has been seemingly little warm air this year to heat the huge tub of water that is Wisconsin's eastern border.
By this part of June, Lake Michigan is around 57 degrees, according to a 1992-2018 average by NOAA CoastWatch. But on Wednesday water buoys recorded a surface temperature of only around 50 degrees.
The average temperature in Milwaukee for March, April and May considered meteorological spring was 44.5 degrees, around 1 degree colder than normal. However, May was almost 2 degrees colder than usual in Milwaukee.
