As Wisconsin voters headed to the polls Tuesday, the state updated its count of confirmed coronavirus cases to 2,578, and deaths announced by state and county reports totaled at least 95.

An increasing number of confirmed cases were also associated with hospitalizations, which increased almost 12% in a single day to 745.

Tuesday's increases came after the state Supreme Court rejected Gov. Tony Evers' order to stop in-person voting and delay the election.

Health Services Secretary Andrea Palm had said Monday that in-person voting would "without question" increase case totals, "and an increase in the number of cases in Wisconsin would result in more deaths."

A statistical model created by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation predicts that Wisconsin's deaths will peak April 21 at 32 on that day, with 644 overall deaths by mid-May.

There were more than 28,500 negative test results as of Tuesday, by the Department of Health Services' count.

Palm announced Monday the state had 12 active labs capable of running COVID-19 tests with a combined capacity of nearly 3,600 per day...........................................
