WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- After a lengthy review and public clashes between opponents and supporters, the U.S. Air Force has formally announced that the F-35 fighter will be based at Truax Field in Madison.
In a statement released Wednesday morning, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson said the fighters will help keep the state and country safe.
Today's news ensures Wisconsins 115th Fighter Wing, based at Truax Field in Madison, will now receive a critical upgrade with the F-35 replacing the aging F-16 fighter jets currently in service," Johnson said. "The new fighters will help maintain U.S. air superiority and keep our state and country safe and secure. The F-35s will also ensure the Air National Guard continues to play an important role in Wisconsins communities and economy.
Basing the jet in Madison had been opposed by large coalitions of groups including, most recently, the Madison Common Council which voted earlier this month to approve a resolution opposing the jets. However supporters, including the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, argued that Wisconsin needed National Guard more than ever.

Guns and fighter jets everywhere, but you can't get a coronavirus test until you're infected. I'd feel much safer if we'd invested a quarter of our military spending in pandemic preparedness and election protection.
Screw you, Ron Johnson.

(12,712 posts)This is a thing right now? U.S. air superiority? Oh, during this chaotic debacle, I was really worried about that and thought it might be a big priority.
And how about utilizing the vast resources that the military has by routing them into the fight against the spread of the virus? I don't mean military action, of course, but we pay a hefty price for the tools and toys that arm of the MIC gets and its huge.
I was reading an article, but can't remember the name of the military planning agency, for operations, that could be very helpful and effective in the utilization of resources and planning and that can be done without any intervention, that is, as a huge contrast to El Presidente and his sidekicks, the Corona Gang.
I am not seeing much of push to divert some of that towards this dangerous time.

Shows what you know.
We need all the military spending we can spend.
