The fact that the Republicans are trying to "work the refs" before the game even starts shouldn't surprise any one of us.
The gerrymandering done in 2011 locked in a permanent Republican majority in both houses of the legislature and damned near guarantees that the repubs can ram through their maps over a weak, Democratic minority. What they want, obviously is to short-circuit any legal challenge the minority may have directly to the State Supreme Court where they can count on their faithful majority vote with little or no constitutional basis. You know, like Trump thought he could do with the election?
In my home legislative/senate districts, I've watched the Democrats put forth a sacrificial lamb to run against a -65-35% tailor-made Republican majority 4 @#$% times since 2011. My city is neatly cut into four segments which means that our representation is by 3 different Assembly persons and three different Senators. As long as the current maps hold up (see article WILL is arguing to keep the maps the same) there will NEVER be a Democrat elected to the Assembly or Senate from any of those districts.
I'm not hopeful that a fair map will ever be adopted as long as the residue from the 2011 redistricting.
damn.....
