GOP Shoots Down BadgerCare Expansion Again, Keeping $2 Billion in School Funding in Jeopardy

Democrats on the state’s budget-writing committee on Tuesday tried once again to hold a discussion on BadgerCare expansion—this time to shore up enough funding for K-12 schools to avoid losing out on more than $2 billion in COVID-19 relief funding.

The committee's Republican majority has currently approved such a small school-funding increase that Wisconsin schools would lose out on about $2.3 billion in aid for school districts because the state would fall short of US Department of Education funding requirements.

Superintendents at several major school districts have informed legislators that they’ve had to put budgeting for the 2021-22 school year on hold due to uncertainty about the federal funds.

The new Democratic proposal would have boosted K-12 funding using some of the $1.6 billion the state would receive for expanding BadgerCare, but Republicans voted the move was out of order because they had previously removed BadgerCare expansion from the budget and created a rule that items removed would not be up for discussion later.

These ratfucks don't care one bit about Wisconsin's citizens. It's just about making Tony look bad.
