Godlewski leaves Senate race, endorses Barnes

State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski has ended her Democratic primary bid for the U.S. Senate, throwing her support behind Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes and all but ensuring his victory in the primary.

“I am honored to accept Treasurer Godlewski’s endorsement in this critical race,” Barnes said in a statement Friday. “Throughout this campaign, Sarah has been a leader in the fight to protect abortion access and a tireless advocate for working people and rural communities across Wisconsin.”

The news was first reported by the Cap Times and confirmed by News 3 Now.

This comes after two other high-profile Democrats dropped out of the race the same week — Bucks executive Alex Lasry and Outagamie County Exec. Tom Nelson. Both endorsed Barnes as they stepped out.

I have a good feeling about his chances against Johnson.

But going on record, Sarah is a great candidate and deserving of support.

I just think Barnes had a better chance of winning.

Sad she's dropping out. I wish those who had dropped did so before absentee ballots were mailed. This is going to muddle things.
