137 people cited for underage drinking at Wisconsin bar

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) — On Thursday, police checked the IDs of 143 people at a bar in Madison, Wisconsin. Only six were of age.

Police with the Madison Police Department were conducting “proactive enforcement” in downtown Madison on Sept. 1, visiting bars in the neighborhood and checking to see if the venues were enforcing liquor laws, police wrote in an incident report.

At one of the bars, officers cited 137 people for underage drinking or having false IDs. They did not name the bar, but noted that it was located within the 600 block of Main Street.

“MPD is actively working with the establishment on this investigation, and they will not be named at this time until further steps are taken to determine the bar’s role in the matter,” police wrote.

Officers added that more citations are “likely.”

I’m sorry but what a waste of resources, time and energy. Either make everything 21 or everything 18. It’s ridiculous to take right from adults.

bodies into body bags. The drinking age was 18 when I was 18. The reality was high school parties where hunch punch was the beverage of choice. That I’m here to write this is nothing short of a miracle. I’ve got a long list of those not so fortunate.

I know a guy that got a big fine even though the kid had a really good fake ID. He was a checker at a Rosaures.

And, yes - I'm taking into account college town, college students, cheeseheads - and blah, blah, blah.

But, really - 137 fake (or underage) IDs - out of 143? That's ridiculous. I don't care if it is Madison, UW. That's a business that is blatantly aiding and abetting. Pull the license!

It sounds like more than a single employee flouting the law. It sounds like a whole establishment.

I know I wasn’t more than 20 but I go to the brewery tours where you could drink your fill for free. Pretty cool and I didn’t drive, just got dropped off and picked up
Later. Way before cell phones by the way.
