We have all encountered the 5-year-old who insists on getting his way and rejects every effort at compromise. ..........
With the passage of time, most children mature and come to understand that life involves compromises,.......................
These tragic individuals, because they are unable to engage in meaningful work, become Republican legislative leaders.
We were reminded of this unfortunate circumstance last week, when Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu were required to submit three names to the governor to consider for appointment to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. The seat in question needs to be filled by a former municipal or county clerk, of which there are thousands to pick from in Wisconsin. Vos and LaMahieu were confronted with what should have been an easy task.
But they could not pull it off.
Instead of submitting three names, the Republican legislative leaders submitted one name three times: that of former Green Lake County clerk and current commission member Marge Bostelmann.
Vos and LaMahieu had every right to propose Bostelmann for a place on the six-member body. But they also had a responsibility to follow the state statute that required them to give the governor the option to select from a trio of proposed names.
Rather than allow government to function as intended, Republican leaders in the Wisconsin legislature choose to play games instead, said state Sen. Chris Larson, D-Milwaukee. By law, they were required to submit three names to Governor Evers for appointment to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. Instead, they sent one name three times.

(8,655 posts)I do appreciate the Cap Times calling them out on it at least once a year, though. Good to remind people that though we are living through the worst gerrymandered legislature in the country, we can still speak truth to power.
