Milwaukee Elections Commission: Not enough signatures to recall MPS board member Missy Zombor

A group that failed last week to trigger recall elections against three of four Milwaukee Public Schools board members has also failed to collect enough signatures to force a recall against the fourth member.

A statement from the Milwaukee Election Commission on Monday said the commission found that the MPS School Board Recall Collaborative failed to recall Missy Zombor, who holds the board's at-large seat. To recall Zombor, the group had to collect at least 44,177 signatures but collected an estimated 28,050 signatures, the statement said.

The update comes after attempts to recall board president Marva Herndon, board vice president Jilly Gokalgandhi and board member Erika Siemsen also failed last week. The petitions for the three board members were thousands of signatures short of the required number of signatures, according to results on the Milwaukee Elections Commission website.

Milwaukee Election Commission executive director Paulina Gutierrez confirmed the results, saying that the commission is finalizing the number of signatures submitted. Once finalized, the number of signatures for Zombor's seat will be posted on the commission's website. As of 4:12 p.m., the commission's website did not have those numbers posted yet. The commission's statement also said 2,805 pages of signatures were submitted, with up to 10 signatures per page.

capitalize on a scandal to completely dismantle MPS. The folks pushing the recall were rabid school-choice/anti-public-school folks, and their motives were....questionable....to say the least.

Surprised it hasn’t happened in our town. Some vocal right-wingers and yet, everyone on the board has run unopposed the last 3 spring general elections.

Glad to here there was no support for this.
