Voting activists request a federal investigation after ballot drop box removal
MADISON (WKOW) -- Wausau voters and other voting activists are requesting an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice after Wausau Mayor Doug Diny removed an absentee ballot drop box without asking the clerk.
The initial removal of the ballot drop box sparked outrage across the city. During a Sept. 30 interview, prior to the federal investigation request, Mayor Diny says he removed the drop box after noticing it was not bolted to the ground.
"If it would have been bolted down it would have been a completely different story if I would've unbolted it," Mayor Diny said in the interview.
One voter says acts like these are devastating to the public's trust in our election system.
"This action is reducing the confidence that our voters have in our election process," said Kay Palmer, a chairperson for the League of Women Voters of Marathon County.
