How Madison neighborhoods voted on the city's $22M referendum

On Nov. 5, Madison voters approved a plea by city leaders to raise property taxes by $22 million and avoid steeper cuts to government services.

Citywide, the measure passed by a comfortable margin, according to unofficial results reported by the Dane County Clerk. About 57% voted in favor.

But at the neighborhood level, the referendum clearly received stronger support from more central residents than those living farther from downtown.

The interactive map below, created by the Cap Times, shows the results by election ward. Darker green means stronger support for the referendum. Darker purple means stronger opposition. Click on individual wards to see the percent who voted in favor.
