Dane County Circuit Court judge race Q&A: Ben Jones (D) and Huma Ahsan (D)

A slew of local offices are up for election April 7, including Branch 1 of the Dane County Circuit Court. Incumbent Judge Ben Jones and challenger Huma Ahsan are vying for the trial court seat after advancing from February’s three-way primary race.

Jones received 53% of the vote while Ahsan, an immigration attorney, received 35%. About 12% voted for Nathan Wagner, which eliminated him from the ballot.

Jones currently holds the office after Gov. Tony Evers appointed him in May to fill the vacancy left by Susan Crawford following her election last year to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Circuit Court judges serve six-year terms, and come June will receive a $183,352 annual salary. Dane County’s Branch 1 is currently a civil division that also includes family law cases.
