Marijuana bill moves out of Judiciary Committee

WYOMING — Following nearly four hours of discussion and public comment, The House Judiciary Committee voted 6-3 on March 12, in support of House Bill 209, regulation of marijuana.

Teton County Representative Mike Yin along with 13 other Wyoming lawmakers are sponsoring HB209, regulation of marijuana in the state of Wyoming. Anticipated fiscal impacts include $30.7 million per year to the School Foundation Fund, 15.35 million per year to the Local sources fund, and 3.1 million in license fees in the fiscal year 2022. The projections are based on marijuana sales in Colorado, adjusted to the population of Wyoming.

Reps. Jared Olsen (R-Laramie), Karlee Provenza (D-Albany), Mike Yin (R-Teton), Dan Zwonitzer (R-Laramie) all sponsored the bill and sit on the House Judiciary Committee. They all voted in favor of the bill advancing to the House floor, along with Reps. Barry Crago (R-Sheridan) and Ember Oakley (R-Fremont).

The bill will now head to the House floor for debate and may be amended. If the bill passes, Wyoming can expect $49.15 million in revenue from retail marijuana in the fiscal year 2022.
