Alcohol sales could come to University of Wyoming games
Should the University of Wyoming make alcohol sales a part of its most popular athletic events? The question is on the floor for UWs leaders following a presentation by the athletic department during Wednesdays Board of Trustees meeting.
In light of UWs current and future budgetary challenges, Athletics Director Tom Burman told the Board of Trustees his department is looking at increasing current and potential revenue streams, as well as drilling down expense line items. One of those areas is the sale of beer and wine at football and basketball games, Burman said.
This truly came to a head when we allowed beer and wine sales in Wildcatter (Stadium Club indoor club seating) but not the general public, Burman said. That, coupled with a number of universities who have added sales in the last 24 months, moved us to consider this option.
In addition to a recent trend among some universities, such as Colorado State University, to permit alcohol sales at athletic events, Burman also cited competition for UW athletic events, such as professional athlete sporting events and concerts, as well as what he described as an expectation among the 40-and-younger generation for alcohol sales as compelling evidence the athletics department should consider the option, he said.
