Wyoming lawmakers try again for right to privacy amendment

CHEYENNE – State lawmakers are making another run at a proposed constitutional amendment that would recognize a “right to privacy.”

The Legislature’s Joint Corporations, Elections and Political Subdivisions Committee voted Tuesday to send the proposed amendment to the entire Legislature for consideration.

The amendment would enshrine a “right of individual privacy” in the state constitution, with an exception for a “compelling state interest.”

The amendment also contains wording that specifies the amendment cannot “deprive a person of any right provided by law to examine documents or to observe the deliberations of any agency or political subdivision of the state, except in cases in which the demand of individual privacy clearly exceeds the merits of public disclosure.”
