ACMA held an enquiry into statements Kyle Sandilands made against a journalist. He criticized her clothes and her body shape on radio. Germaine Greer criticized Julia Gillard's clothes and her body shape on TV, and like Kyle, in a nasty way. Neither one of them could call themselves an authority on fashion. I think that Julia Gillard dresses very appropriately for the role of Prime Minister.
I must admit that when I first heard those remarks, I was deeply disappointed in Ms Greer because I thought that she would be one person that would be sympathetic to the female cause. Surely, we should be beyond such vicious statements in this day and age.
But, the plot thickens. Our fearless opposition leader has put his 2cents worth in as well. How low can that person stoop? Can anybody recall Julia Gillard commenting on his budgie smugglers or his lycra bike riding gear? There is only one other politician who would probably be so stupid and that would be George W Bush. If Abbott ever becomes PM I'm sure we'll experience many cringe-worthy embarrassing moments.
I am not religious, but, please god, save us from him.

(2,560 posts)Sandilands doesn't have one so can't use it.
I couldn't believe Sandiland's comments - dude, do you ever look in the mirror?
I'm atheist, but agree...please God, not Abbott.

(6,384 posts)She did not criticise Julia Gillard's character or morals in any way, unlike Kyle Sandilands with the journalist. But she did point out that Julia does herself no favours with her appalling dress sense; nor does she have enough nous to ask advice from someone with a better eye than she has. She has a very awkward figure, and needs to choose far more carefully if she doesn't want to be a walking cartoon.
It is perfectly true that her clothes don't fit her, and that's something I can't understand. She's very well paid, and it wouldn't take much to simply buy slightly more upmarket, so she would end up with well-cut, well-fitting clothes that wouldn't arouse a lot of adverse comment. She should also definitely not wear nipped-in waists with flares over her hips that simply draw attention to her sizeable bum (which looks even worse because her posture is so poor). And to wear exactly the same design of jacket and blouse every day is pathetic - how much imagination does it take to vary your style occasionally?
Nobody's asking her to be a fashion-plate, but it would be an improvementif she didn't look as though she's bought a job lot from Target. She's not being criticised just because she's a woman, and she can't help it if she has no natural sense of taste or style, but she could take some much-needed advice from those whose job it is to put clothes together in a way that's pleasing to the eye.
I dont care if she dresses in a sack. Just because she's a politician it does not give the right for anyone (especially Germaine Greer) to publicly demeen her.
There have been male politicians in the past who have had bad builds and have dressed below standard but have never had the criticism that Julia Gillard has received. My argument is, is that Greer didn't only mock Gillard for her clothing but she made a joke of her figure. God help any female in the future who may want to get into politics and maybe want to be prime minister. Hopefully she will have a perfect figure, look very attractive and dress to perfection. With a bit of luck this ficticious person might also have a brain.
I have always been an admirer of Helen Clark. Shame she doesn't meet everybody's standards in looks and dress.

(6,384 posts)It's a given that people will notice what she wears, but it's only a problem when she hasn't a clue how to dress and clearly doesn't ask for advice. The thing I find most difficult to understand is that her clothes don't fit her - does she ever try anything on before she buys? All those boring jackets she wears are way too tight for her, and it's all too obvious. Even if they were good quality, which they're clearly not, they wouldn't look good if she's wearing a size too small for her.
She owes it to her position to look presentable, and she never, ever does.
And for the record, I also think Tony Abbott is a walking joke - budgie smugglers, lycra, and even a good suit can never look good on a man who walks like an ape (with no disrespect intended for apes). He's the most ungainly politician I've ever seen. I hate the thought of this man one day representing us overseas.

(79 posts)Germain Greer dosent even live in Australia, and for that matter neither does Sandilands.
I get haulled over the coals by the ACMA for making a comment about some one in our town and get a fine,BUT what does this 'MORON' get nothing,BUT I can tell you Austerio would have had some dollars taken out of their funds. Also a couple of sponsors decided to cut ties with 2DayFM.Thank god we dont have to listen in to his CRAP up here in rural NSW.Instead in the mornings we get stuck with Lawsie or Jones. The later I despise,Lawsie I can tollerate BUT Jones is a self opiniated Liberal 'FLIP'
As far as that other moron Greer, she ought to look in the mirror sometime.
Julia Gillard dresses to suit the time of day and the conditions. At least you dont see her wearing min skirts or low cut dresses,or showing off her body, not like some other people ,especially Tony Abbott with his budgie smugglers. That bloke has about as much charisma as a 'train smash' and the trouble is that his Ministers are all the same.
I can tell you what,if people came to our radio station they would get a terrible shock,I wear trackies in the winter and thongs and T shirt and shorts in the summer and I would like to see someone have a go at me,I would tell them well and truly to 'mind their own business'
Any way as far as I am concerned,Germain Greer & Sandilands are a couple of MORONS who dont even deserve the time of day.
