Senator Rod Culleton declared bankrupt

Senator Rod Culleton has been declared bankrupt after a hearing in the Federal Court in Perth.

The verdict against Senator Culleton, who was elected in the July federal election representing Pauline Hanson's One Nation but has since split from the party, follows legal action brought by a creditor.

By law, a senator who is declared bankrupt is disqualified from serving in the Senate.

Senator Culleton has 21 days to appeal the decision to the full Federal Court.

Pauline Hanson certainly can pick them.

Her party disintegrated 20 years ago amidst infighting. Now it's happening again, with Culleton resigning from One Nation during his court hearing. Which means his seat wouldn't automatically go to another One Nation candidate, but there may have to be a by-election.
