Police are investigation the actions of all sides after a Vancouver Island homeowner, fed up with teens kicking his door in the middle of the night, decided to take matters into his own hands. The resident is garnering support from neighbours. Kylie Stanton reports

A quiet Vancouver Island neighbourhood says it has been terrorized by a group of young people taking part in the TikTok door-knock challenge.

This involves banging on someone’s door, using hands or feet, and then running away without getting caught — and documenting the ordeal on the social media platform.

Owen May, who declined an on-camera interview, told Global News in an email that he set up a trip wire with fishing line outside his front door.

May shared his porch camera footage with Global News, showing a young man approaching his door, kicking it a few times, then attempting to run away but tripping over the wire. May had pulled it tight from the other side of the door and as the teen fell down, May’s wife pounced on him.

She has a really big retriever mix that I walk. He is the most good natured dog, but he will definitely take a hunk out of somebody who frightens her. She is a recent widow that doesn't need this in her life.

Good thinking on his part to set a wire up. Bet that kids shit his pants.

Not a knock, but like a single fist-pound or a kick.

I checked the peephole, saw no one. Opened the door, no one there, nothing on the ground that might have hit the door and fallen.

I hadn't thought of that again 'til now. Now I wonder if there's a brief clip of me on TikTok, from a distance, opening my door and looking around.

On edit: I see the TikTok videos seem to be of the knocker "getting away with it," rather than of befuddled people opening their doors. I guess my 15 minutes of fame will have to wait.
