"SNIP........
The talks went into overtime, but as their American counterparts get set to expand their strike against all three Detroit automakers, Canadian auto workers look like theyve avoided one of their own.
Negotiators at Ford Motor Company and the Unifor union reached tentative agreement on a new contract Tuesday, almost a full day after a strike deadline.
Terms of the deal werent immediately available, and it must still be ratified by Fords 5,600 Unifor members
........
We believe that this tentative agreement, endorsed by the entire master bargaining committee, addresses all of the items raised by members in preparation for this round of collective bargaining, Unifor national president Lana Payne said in a written statement. We believe that this agreement will solidify the foundations on which we will continue to bargain gains for generations of autoworkers in Canada.

Applegrove:
Main deal was on pensions as automation will reduce jobs into the future so pensions will be needed.
