SNIP...............
National security officials have been notified that an underground tunnel was discovered near a venue for this summer's Pan Am Games in Toronto, CBC News has learned.
The tunnel was dug in the woods near Toronto's Rexall Centre and York University's Keele campus. It was large enough for a person to stand in, at around 2½ metres in height, and was about seven metres long. The tunnel had lights inside, powered by a generator, and the walls and ceiling were reinforced.
Sources told CBC News that the tunnel was filled in by authorities.
A Toronto and Region Conservation Authority employee reportedly found the tunnel while walking near the TRCA headquarters at 5 Shoreham Dr. in mid-January. The employee, who was carrying out day-to-day activities, noticed a piece of corrugated steel in the woods, and when it was lifted, the tunnel could be seen about three metres down.

(54,362 posts)I hope the authorities find out who built it and what was it's intended purpose.
Unfortunately, the Harper government will politicize this as they have everything else in order to justify the overreaching of their new 'terra, terra, terra bill.

(751 posts)Another example of Keystone Kops. Instead of setting up surveillance and finding who was digging this hole, they decide to grandstand this through the media and allow whoever was building it to disappear. "Look overtaxed public, we are actually using your tax dollars to find neat stuff, see!".
My guess is that is was probably related more to theft than terrorism but my guess is as good as anyones. Either way, chances of the person coming forward and saying "oops, this was me, hehe sorry about that, I have a sleep walking problem" is unlikely now. So we will be left to speculate what this was about, you can be sure every security agency is salivating at the thought of bringing this up as a reason to increase their budgets.
Stay the course. Boot G20 liar Bill Blair on his ass, replace him with someone who has a clue and make deep cuts to the TPS budget.

(54,362 posts)this was a group trying to replicate tunnel building done during WWII given the rosary with a poppy being found. Engineering students from York University say it wasn't them but that doesn't mean it couldn't have been another group. Just a thought anyway.
