Related: About this forumDon't you think Justin Trudeau should sell 24 Sussex (PM's official residence) and build
a new one on the Governor General's property? I mean 24 Sussex needs 10 Million dollars in renovations and it is only worth a fraction of that. Plus it is too close to a major artery...only 40 feet from the front door. It is not safe. And the GG has so many unused acres. I think now would be the time to build a proper new home for Canada's Prime Minister. After all 24 Sussex has only been the PM's residence since the 1950s.

(123,137 posts)promise and reform first past the post elections with proportional representation. That will benefit the left in general. So far so good.

(3,321 posts)... that Harper's treatment of 24 Sussex drive is a perfect analog for his treatment of Canada?
You can deal with my mess once I'm good and done with it.
And by then it will be far more expensive to fix!

(123,137 posts)it would look bad politically 2) It is an unsafe location and all pms knew that. Who would want to be the pm to renovate that which will not result in any equity and will likely have to be abandoned when security gets tighter as terrorism grows in the years to come. There is the old city hall of Ottawa bldg. just down the street from the PM. They did a huge renovation on it in the 1980s. Spent millions of dollars. Then the city amalgamated with other boroughs in the 1990s and moved to a new regional government offices downtown as the new City Hall. What a waste that was.
