https://globalnews.ca/news/6841797/ontario-coronavirus-covid19-updated-projections-modelling/Ontario health officials have revealed updated coronavirus modelling data that shows the province has already peaked in cases among community spread and numbers appear to be trending downwards towards a best case scenario.
Projections now show Ontarios COVID-19 outbreak behaving more like best case, the report highlighted.
However, Brown said that while community spread of COVID-19 has peaked, cases in long-term care homes, retirement homes and any other congregate settings appear to continue to grow.
We should all be proud that as a province we stepped up, we faced this enemy head on, we did not shy away from difficult decisions, we did the right thing, we listened to the experts and thanks to our collective efforts, thanks to all of you, we have so far avoided the worst case scenario that we were all dreading, said Premier Doug Ford on Monday.
Now the cumulative cases for the span of the entire outbreak is less than 20,000, substantially lower than 80,000 cases previously predicted for the end of April and 300,000 cases for the end of the pandemic.

You can actually see the curve start to flatten in Toronto ~15 days in, which would be around March 26. Bars/restaurants/closed March 17, emergency declared March 23, playgrounds closed March 25. Physical distancing appears to be working. Need to keep it up.

(444 posts)1. At the moment Ontario is sitting well under 12,000 . . .
This statement found in the OP link is confirmed by the data sites I check daily
"As of Monday, Ontario reported 11,184 cases of the virus with 584 deaths."
I watched curiously at first (the data), then with increasing alarm as it spread out from Toronto like wildfire, passing my wee town 200 miles north, then another 200 miles north to a city of over 40,000 where it has claimed some more . . . .
This stay at home and social distancing thing? I'm 100% for it until we KNOW how to beat this thing.
In my area, almost everyone is complying without a fuss.

And while I think this this news is worthy of some cautious optimism, it does not mean we should change behaviours, yet. I've been self-isolating since March 17th, working from home, not seeing friends or going out except for grocery store runs. It's a huge drag, but if it's flattening the curve, if it's WORKING, if it gives me a chance to have some fun times late in the summer, then hooray, and I will keep doing it.

(444 posts)3. " . . . Ford says province 'can't jump ahead' despite latest update."
I am not overly fond of our Premier, but on this I agree totally.
COVID-19 cases have peaked in broader community in Ontario, model projections suggest; Ford says province cant jump ahead despite latest update

I'm not gonna cherry-pick paragraphs - it's long, but well written and a very informative read.

I'm certainly not a Ford fan, but I'm glad he's not the stubborn egotistic narcissist that is running the show south of the border (or even out in Alberta, though I think Kenney's days are numbered with oil prices going the way they are).
And Hello! from someone in self-isolation in North York.
