RCMP confiscate firearms, body armour and a machete
Alberta RCMP have arrested 11 people after searching three trailers and finding weapons at a protest against pandemic restrictions near the main U.S. border crossing in southern Alberta.
Mounties said in a release Monday that they became aware of a small organized group within the larger protest at Coutts.
They say they had information that the group had access to a cache of firearms and ammunition. Officers seized long guns, handguns, multiple sets of body armour, a machete, a large quantity of ammunition and high-capacity firearm magazines.

Speaking at an unrelated event Monday in Calgary, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said the successful police operation now clears the way for authorities to proceed with further enforcement without fear of provoking violence.

(54,362 posts)"traffic violations", beyond ridiculous as we know. Injunctions don't happen when there is just "traffic violations", states of emergency aren't declared for "traffic violations".

(54,362 posts)and to give enough time that the so-called 'protesters' can't claim lack of due process, etc. I have no doubt the authorities weren't surprised at what they found given this is Alberta, aka Texas North.
From the OP article, it looks like the Alberta Premier has finally accepted that the authorities need to move in, better late than never I guess.

(54,362 posts)I also think the threat of the Emergencies Act being invoked also might be causing him angst as he could well be seen as the cause given he refused to use the tools he had to put an end to this.
He is such a despicable worm.

(11,917 posts)under their purview and authority. I think Trudeau is doing this because of this exactly, they were not doing the job so he will. That is why Kenny is saying he doesn't want in Alberta. He makes me want to vomit.

(54,362 posts)on Trudeau, it is failing. The two Premiers are front and center as to who to blame and Canadians know this.
Kenny's numbers are in the toilet now and still dropping, this isn't going to help him at all, imo.

(54,362 posts)Having to wait another year to, hopefully, get rid of him and his cabal is very frustrating. His party might try and throw him out in April in hopes of stopping the bloodletting re polls. I only have one concern there and that is Brian Jean becoming the leader.
Bev54
(11,917 posts)I want the party out. I wonder if Jean can get those radical conservatives support though.
Spazito
(54,362 posts)Jean was leader of the Wild Rose Party which was the more extreme right wing so he may garner enough votes from some of those supporters as well as coming across as relatively moderate at times which may entice some of the old guard Progressive Conservatives to support him as well.
Given the way Kenny and his cabal have set up the 'rules' for the review in April, counting only those who can physically attend and vote rather than allowing a greater number of participants along with other rules that heavily favour Kenny over any rivals, we might be lucky enough for him to keep his position and be in place for the next Provincial election. Fingers crossed on that one.
