Theresa May swipes at Trump over response to neo-Nazi rally bloodshed as she faces calls from MPs to SCRAP the US president's state visit
(yes I know it's the Mail but I liked the headline )
Theresa May swiped at Donald Trump today over his response to bloodshed at a neo-Nazi rally - as she faced renewed demands to cancel his state visit invite.
The Prime Minister said leaders had a 'responsibility' to condemn the Far Right after he reignited a furious row over his attitude towards white supremacists.
Following days of pressure, including from senior Republicans, Mr Trump finally issued a statement singling out far-right demonstrators for violence in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday, that left a woman dead.
But he appeared to revert to his original stance again last night by insisting there was 'blame on both sides' and the protesters included some 'fine people'.

Theresa May has joined politicians from the main parties in the UK in criticising Donald Trump for suggesting there was a moral equivalence between the Charlottesville racist protesters and those campaigning against them.
But the prime minister has not agreed to requests to cancel Trumps planned state visit to the UK in the light of his latest comments, despite renewed calls for the honour to be withdrawn.
Asked about Trumps claim that some of those taking part in the Charlottesville demonstration deemed as neo-Nazi were very fine people, May said they should have been condemned.
Speaking in Portsmouth at a ceremony to mark the arrival of the new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, May said: I see no equivalence between those who propound fascist views and those who oppose them. I think it is important for all those in positions of responsibility to condemn far-right views wherever we hear them.

(41,302 posts)the streets will be lined with protesters with placards calling him a cockwomble and a shitgibbon. And worse things. We don't like fascists and enablers of fascism.

(6,384 posts)That's why he postponed before - his ego can't take the thought that not everybody loves him. And if May says she can't prevent people from demonstrating in the street because in Britain free speech rules, that will solve the problem.
I'm sure the Queen would breathe a sigh of relief too.
