Did anyone know the Tories got rid of the supplementary vote for mayors, police commissioners etc.?

But that was under the supplementary vote (SV) system. Last year, the Elections Act 2022 – more noted for its controversial voter ID requirement and attempts to rein in the independence of the Electoral Commission – replaced SV with first past the post (FPTP). The government dropped this change into the bill late in the day, with opposition from Labour muted at best, with the opposition preferring to concentrate their parliamentary fire on the introduction of voter ID.

So no more "I can vote once for who I really want, and then in the 2nd round to keep the Tory Bastard out": https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/mar/16/sadiq-khan-says-change-to-voting-system-could-bring-tory-london-mayor

Is Police and Crime Commissioners being merged with regional mayors. This much has been pretty much universally welcomed as it saves costs. Even though it does mean another round of mayoral elections this year.

The main concerns people have with the Mayor here are to do with public transport. With the South Yorkshire mayoral authority taking over the running of local tram services, this has meant a distinct lack of information about forthcoming changes as Mayor Coppard seeks to keep bad news to a minimum ahead of his reelection campaign.
