In an open primary, I don’t see her winning. I can see Newsom or Buttigieg. That would actually make for a nice ticket. Young and vibrant.

Provided President Biden doesn’t run again.

The best candidate is MI Governor Gretchen Whitmer or MN US Senator Amy Klobuchar.

How will they do that?
- Push polling that creates headlines designed to worry democrats
- Pitting democrats against each other, splitting the party
- Relentless criticism and disinformation campaigns about democratic candidates

In other words, they will create "news", and then use social media to reinforce and amplify their dirt.

DU needs to be alert to the possibility that it will happen here.

If Biden doesn't run for a second term (and while I think he is doing a very good job, I'm also increasingly nervous about his age), I think there are some potentially very good candidates out there, especially on the gubernatorial side. Jay Inslee of Washington, Newsome of California, Al Franken (yes, I would vote for Al Franken in a heartbeat), Kathy Hochul of New York, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Kate Brown of Oregon, Janet Mills of Maine, Laura Kelly of Kansas. We need to get out of the mold of going to the Senate every time we're looking for a presidential contender.

I think the biggest problem that Harris faces right now is that she's being Hillaried. The VP is seldom glamorous, and it makes it easy to throw mud at her even when she's doing her best. Having said that, I think that she should run in the primary but not unopposed.
