Tom Petty's estate had some well deserved, strong words in regard to Lake's illegal use of his music
To be clear Ms. Lake, Tom Petty was enraged by any sort of injustice. Without question he would have been outraged by your failed campaign for Governor, which was filled with distortions, lies, smears, promoting hate, and attempting to undermine our democracy. Using his music to promote yourself and your despicable cause is revolting and antithetical to everything that Tom and his music stand for and mean to millions of people.

Imagine their next presidential candidate coming out on stage to "The Wheels on the Bus" or "Hickory Dickory Dock."

(3,869 posts)It depends on a lot of things - how the song will be used, where it will be played, how often and so on. Whether it's played live or recorded, one has to pay BMI or ASCAP to use a published song. Even club owners pay a fee if the band they hire covers published tunes.
Apparently Lake is a 'wannabe' just like her idol & hero, the disgraced, twice-impeached, corrupt, lying, cowardly, loser ex-president, trump. No wonder he is a "billionaire" he never pays for the things or the people he uses.
Apparently Lake wants to go down that same orange road.

Copyright laws are often misunderstood or ignored by a vast number of people who feel that anything they can find on the internet is fair game. That includes music, photographs, and printed words.
Look at all the people that try and circumvent paywalls or steal photographs and republish them.
IF the proper rights are purchased through a clearinghouse like BMI, the artist doesn't maintain veto power, as far as I know. I'm not in the music industry, so correct me if I'm wrong.

(3,869 posts)Apparently Lake & her cohorts did not pay for the Rights to use Tom Petty's song, else-wise there would have been no complaint.. I believe the artist can refuse, through BMI or ASCAP, to lease the Rights to their artistic property which includes as you say, music, photographs, and printed words as for the most part they still control their property.
I am in the music industry.. trump has been stealing more than Government Documents for his entire life
