Election Reform
Related: About this forumHave you quit coming to DU since the redesign?
I don't find it user friendly and haven't been coming to the site much at all.
The old format allowed me to see the best reads, now I can't find them.
its real purty but I BET less people are visiting.
Am I wrong?

(152,141 posts)It did take a little time to get used to the new design, but I persevered.
And now I find it much easier to navigate.
I have embraced the future!
Old and In the Way
(37,540 posts)I find the sorting capabilities and flexibility of reviewing most recs, most comments to be far superior to the old site. It took some getting used to, but I wouldn't want to return to the old version. If you need help on finding stuff, ask away!

(10,618 posts)The traffic seems a lot lighter. Is the old DU still running and sucking people away from here? If it is, that's no good.
Seems like I have more trouble finding TOONS too. I used to be able to easily find the toon roundups, now they seem to disappear from view too quickly, even if they do get significant recs to make the greatest page they seem to sink out of sight in a big hurry.
I don't post as often because it seems like threads just don't get replies much anymore. It's become more like talking to myself. Pointless.

(3,491 posts)There is absolutely nothing wrong with DU3 that is different from DU2 IMO.

(6,890 posts)I don't particularly like this version myself. I used to like knowing how many posts a person has but it takes a bit more work now.
CaliforniaPeggy
(152,141 posts)It took one click on your username to find it.
How hard is that?

(6,890 posts)But now I have to click on the name each time.

(135,425 posts)You don't even have to leave the page to learn that info.

(135,425 posts)Some people actually get upset by too much going on--there are people who ignore others, like me, solely due to my kitty grabbing the X....they just can't take the movement.
Less is more, for some.

(62,683 posts)I was bitching a lot for a day or two, then that kind of fell away and I've almost forgotten what DU2 was like. Hand around, it really is user friendly.

(135,425 posts)At first, I will admit, I struggled with it a bit. I thought what I was used to was "easier."
Now, though, I like this format much better and I visit more often.

(36,418 posts)Than it used to be. Also, I notice there seems to a rightward creep, particularly on Mideast issues. A lot of neocons and warmongering going on. It seems organized.
intheflow
(28,950 posts)rightward creep, per se, but the place does seem in more lockstep with the establishment Democratic Party, and that makes DU feel more conservative to me now.

(9,791 posts)I've been here through all the changes since 2001. This redesign is very different but it's not something I dislike. It took me a few days to figure things out but I think this is easier to navigate. I'm now getting pretty used to it. I want to be here so, as much as I resist change, it is what we have.

(163,986 posts)Yesterday I was super annoyed because Twitter switched their layout, mostly by flipping things horizontally. I wanted to write a nasty letter to SOMEBODY because all my habits were disrupted.

(1,925 posts)It is one of the 'Preferred Format' selections under the 'My Account' menu....
Somehow it is easier for me to read.. and thanks to the tech savvy DUer who made that suggestion months ago...

(135,425 posts)I also got rid of all that social network shit at the bottom of the OPs! Much nicer!

(36,974 posts)and then on the 'Greatest' button or the 'Most Discussed' button.
(There are drop down menus there to set the options of what you want to see)
Or for some 'Good Reads' check out the 'Good Reads' forum (formally named the "Op-Eds and other articles" forum)
Also, the Front Page of DU3 is where some of the best stuff ends up.
Hope that helps

(79 posts)I was a member of another site,BUT it appears that they or some one has closed it down,so I am here.
I have been going thru some opf the posts and find them very interesting to say the least.
Many and much of your politics and conversation are the same as Oz,BUT we just have different political thoughts.
I will keep up looking and see what else is here.

(53,475 posts)... of DU - which is content, not look and feel - are doing themselves a disservice. Give it a chance. I don't recall a "best reads" forum in DU2, but finding forums, greatest, etc. in DU3 only takes a minute the first time and is automatic after the third.

(86 posts)Not quite certain what I don't like about the new design, but, for me, it's just not as user friendly. I used to look forward to coming to the site, but now I find myself looking for other site's to frequent. I don't have a great explanation for what is wrong with it, but, it's missing something - for me that is - as I can see that many people appreciate this new design.

(10,170 posts)because I am subscribed to the ER group and no one had posted on an election night and I could not find any ER posts in general. I went back to look in the group and the last thread post was mid January.
As you will notice, most of the other folks on this thread are not regular ER posters. You are not wrong about the ER group having less participation.

(16 posts)The old home page was a brilliant collection of news, video, posts, etc. The new format, sorry but nowhere near as user friendly. I'm still coming here, but not several times a day - it used to be the first place i went - every time I got onto the internet.

(14,622 posts)thanks for the comments. Sounds like there are some new people, that some of the older members have stopped coming so much,
and involvement in the ER is down.
Miss the old DU, where some of the best posts were easily found on the home page.
Oh well.
See you in another 3 or 4 weeks, maybe.
