Election Reform

system of electing a President is pledged to vote for the winner of the popular vote in each state. So if HRC won the popular vote nationwide, why then did this clown-coward-traitor end up as potus? Were some of the EC voters faithless and went rogue in their vote and signed the pre-printed certificate anyway pledging they did vote for the majority popular vote when they did not?

(6,269 posts)still, something just doesn't make sense to me. But that's just me. I trust nothing about a system that was created to give ex-slave states more of a voice when they complained, those many, many generations past, that their voice-votes were not being heard-ignored when in actuality they were. This EC was the compromise. Anachronistic and antiquated, same thing true, but it has to go in favour of one person-one vote. But that's just me. The PTB's, especially the GOP, need this system to be able to cheat as proven by the last election. But that's just me and my 1st Amendment right speaking.

(136,689 posts)there is no 'nationwide' vote, but you already know this.
The system was/is not perfect.

(8,546 posts)In which states were the majority of Electoral Votes not awarded to the Presidential candidate that received the majority/plurality of ballots cast in that state?
Example: 1,318,255 of 2,123,372 voters in Alabama selected Trump. All nine of Alabama's Electoral Votes were cast for Trump.

(6,269 posts)meant nothing to the EC voters of Alabama, right?

(6,269 posts)I subtracted instead of adding. Thanks. So I still have no trust in this the system where individuals have the power to accept my vote or able to change it. I don't give a damn about this EC system. It can be manipulated by the faithless. Money makes people faithless. That's probably where all the missing GOP campaign dollars have gone. Sorry for the CT but I just don't trust people like the orange menace with a lot, lot, lot of money. He and his grifter family of squatters have throughly schooled me in the dangers of nepotism.

(947 posts)You are not voting for Biden. You are voting for a group of electors that have pledged to vote for Biden in the EC. Likewise, they will cast a separate vote for Harris as VP.
Concerning faithless electors. I think two Clinton electors actually voted for Stein. One of them was punished by the state. A federal suit resulted, with the court ruling the state has a right to punish a faithless elector.

(6,269 posts)I can only hope, given the skullduggery apparent in our voting system, that my vote for Biden/Harris will be for Biden/Harris. I just hope the orange menace cannot take over our democracy and I will cast my vote against him along with his GOP cronies who want that also. The vote has to be overwhelming to his nebulous calls of fake and fraud.
