Household Hints & Help
Related: About this forumHelp! How can I get the glue off the bottom of some plastic cups,
where the price tag was?
I've tried WD40, rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover w/acetone, lighter fluid, SOS pad, and Comet Cleanser.
Nine of them cleaned fine using the WD40 but the last three are putting up a fight.
Any help would be appreciated before I take them back the Macy's!

(18,219 posts)keep putting it on and pulling it off, taking a little of the glue at a time. It doesn't work on everything, but it usually does. When too much glue is on the tape, you just grab another piece and continue.
And from what I have heard (although I have not used it myself), WD-40 sometimes needs to be left on for a while to soak in and react with the glue.

(9,992 posts)Must be the kind that is made from real citrus oil like this stuff:

Always works for me on even the most stubborn of sticky labels/glue. Smells nice too.

(35,568 posts)There's a product called Goo Gone(sp?) that is good at getting that residue off. Test it on a small area to be sure it doesn't damage the surface. Hardware stores carry it.

(21,642 posts)Vinegar or lemon juice should help with the after-odor.

(22,742 posts)Oil does it every time. Use Baby Oil, Mineral Oil, 3-In-One Motor Oil....it doesn't matter. I have found that ANY oil will rub out ANY "sticky stuff".

(251 posts)This is probably the greatest thing I ever learned. There isn't anything better at breaking up adhesive than just plain oil. Odd that it works as well as it does and everyone I've ever told this to is amazed that it actually works.

(2,682 posts)I've used it and it seems to work, although it takes a bit of scrubbing. Something in the peanut oils releases the stickiness.
