What can I do to dissolve them? It doesn't look like rust, but rather lime or whatever else came out of the water and built up along the water line. They don't scrub out. Help?

(17,276 posts)Do you just add some to the water, or try and empty most of the water out and pour it in? I think it would be a lot because I'd need to get up to the usual water line to get at the ring.

(115,870 posts)I considered turning off the water, emptying the bowl, adding vinegar, but just adding it to the water works well. In a couple hours, brush and flush. And let it smell like a pickley room.

(34,195 posts)I had the same problem, but also with rust stains.
I bought a pumice stone in the housecleaning supply section at my local Walmart.
You wet the stone, rub the stains and flush.
Quite easy, IMHO, and I'm a disabled senior citizen.
Cost about $2.
