Household Hints & Help

Next question.
I have about a dozen used bed pillows from my father's house.
I know you can't donate them for sanitary reasons to shelters, Goodwill, etc. You can't donate them to animal shelters because they'll get ripped up.
Is there no other choice but to throw them in the garbage? I hate the idea of throwing away something as garbage when it can be recycled.
Thanks.

(18,219 posts)I have never tried to see if they could use them, but I would think that they would make good pet beds, especially for cats who would not try to eat them like some dogs.
Wish I could get some used pillows to stuff my bed's shams....what I have are the oldest and most beat up pillows that are well past time to throw away. The shams are big enough to fit 2 standard pillows to make them super fluffy instead of only one dead pillow in each. Oh well.

(17,276 posts)Whatever is used for a dog or cat bed has to be laundered with bleach and machine dried between every animal's using them. Pillows would be lumpy and not dry very well.
We have a wall of shelves full of regular pet beds, all sizes, that get donated by people, and they can be washed. And another wall of shelves full of pet sized blankets that are donated or made by girl scouts and other groups.
