(6,261 posts)Entering 12 into e.g. notepad doesn't come out 122 as well? That's utterly bizarre, almost impossible unless your calculator app or a required dll was corrupted.

I'd go with keyboard issue. Does this happen with all number keys? Just 2 and 4? The 1 seems not to be a problem. Have you entered these numbers in a document or spreadsheet? Same problem? A Google search for windows 10 calculator not working returns a bunch of repair options.
If it's software, there are a gazillion calculators available for download. Try one of these and see if the problem persists. A Google search for windows 10 calculator replacement returns an awful lot of options.
As for going online, if the issue is connectivity - no wifi, bad connection - then going online might be a pain. But if internet access is not a problem, then going online is no different than opening the calculator. Instead of clicking to open the calculator, you click to open a browser. Put your calculation in a browser address bar and hit enter. No different, really, than the app. Plus, if you're working with really large numbers, you won't encounter errors that you might on a calculator app.

(10,002 posts)It won't take but a moment to learn RPN, and once you do.....you'll never go back. Guaranteed. You'll wonder how you've gotten along without RPN.

(1,160 posts)and despite frequently hearing that once I try it....etc., I would seriously damage anyone who tried to take my HP20S.(I do use "42" on my phone configured RPN)

(10,002 posts)Isn't the 20s an algebraic entry calculator with an optional/unusual form of RPN?

(1,160 posts)If it has an RPN option, it does not use an "Enter" key. Will have to check op manual.
