Sent this to verify the router would work ok...
Just bought a Virgin Mobile MiFi 2200..with the intent of
using it as a router between my wifi computer..(have a netgear wifi
adapter installed)..and the fire hd8 tablet. Will I be able to turn it
on and use it as a router ok...From what I've read it is sprint
compatable and works for 3G setups like mine...I also read it will work
ok with the paylo 40$/month plan that I have with virgin mobile
broadband2 go...There is no fee to use it?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to activate a Mi-Fi device. Keep in
mind that this device (and the MC 760 stick) has a certificate that that
expired as of 04/30/19. After this time, or sooner for some devices, you
may no longer be able to use the device on the system, since it will not
be able to connect to the network to perform any troubleshooting steps,
if needed. Virgin Mobile USA continues to enhance the network with
improved features and functionalities for customers. This certificate
expiration is an industry decision, not a Virgin Mobile USA or Sprint
decision.
If your current device is still working, eventually, it will lose
service. In addition, since Virgin Mobile no longer supports
Broadband2Go devices, you may contact BOOST Mobile and check their
devices and service.

This is a little after the fact since the merger has been allowed...
I've bought the wireless device but haven't paid for the service...yet...
I just can't win...or may this will be a benefitial merger..

If the government approves Sprint and T-Mobile’s bid to merge, customers of lower cost pre-paid plans — say from Boost and MetroPCS — could see some changes.
Both Sprint and T-Mobile sell prepaid services at lower costs and under different brand names: Sprint has Boost and Virgin Mobile USA, while T-Mobile offers MetroPCS. The two also wholesale their networks to such third-party resellers as Consumer Cellular, Republic Wireless and Ting; AT&T and in particular, Verizon, are less open to the resellers.
These prepaid and resold services have allowed many customers to lower their bills by buying only the level of data they need; some also rank higher in customer-satisfaction surveys than these carriers’ own subscription services.
Weaving together Sprint and T-Mobile’s networks could upgrade those services, but the combined company could also choose to consolidate its own prepaid brands. Meanwhile, resellers—in trade jargon, MVNOs, short for “mobile virtual network operators”—that now offer service from both firms would find themselves tied to one.
Among Sprint and T-Mobile’s in-house prepaid options, MetroPCS is by far the biggest player, said analyst Jeff Moore, principal at Wave7 Research. T-Mobile has 20.9 million prepaid users, most on MetroPCS, and Sprint has 9 million, most on Boost Mobile, he says.
