(5,379 posts)Hold the Alt key down and on your keypad type the numbers shown below...after the last digit release the alt key....voila! (note that the numbers MUST be typed on the keypad, not the number row above the keyboard letters).

(13,804 posts)I did, and I couldn't fix it.
I had to buy a new keyboard.
I have a Dell All-In-One, and the new keyboard cost $49.00.
Because it is wireless it came with a new mouse and chip.
Good luck.
I hope you can fix yours.

Glad to see someone gave you the alt trick and that it worked for you.

A new Logitech wireless keyboard usually with a mouse, can be found on sale at places like Staples for 20 bucks or so, sometimes less. Keyboards are fairly standard, so you don't need the "recommended" one.
An often unmentioned advantage of a new one is the lack of dried coffee, cat hair, and breadcrumbs stuck under the keys .
On edit-- I now see you have a backlit one, and that changes things. I might still get the cheap backup keyboard, but it may be worth your while to take it apart and see of you can fix it.

Keyboards are disposable, treat yourself right, new one every once in a while.
My favorite is my water proof Logitech, but it's time too is about up.
If you were a neighbor, I'd hand you a spare one.
Forgot, I am typing this on a K120 attached to our old laptop, whose keyboard is unusable, keystrokes not registering or repeated keys, was end of it.
