Chrome new tab cursor wont default to URL/address bar...

Last edited Sun Jan 31, 2021, 03:57 PM - Edit history (3)

Open a new tab and the cursor goes to the search box in the middle of the page.

On EDGE and in the past on Chrome, it would automatically go to the URL bar at the top.

It makes a big difference, and I cant find a way to fix this on Chrome...anybody?

Thanks for all who tried to help, I found the answer. I had an extension "switch to new tab" and it was not on, but this is confusing because it was switching to new tab in google the way I like it but the cursor just wasnt popping up where I wanted, until I turned this on.

I also have "new tab redirect" and it is turned off...I started using EDGE because CHROME got real slow on my brand new LG Gram laptop...real fast at first, but now real slow. EDGE that is.

I have 10th gen Intel I7 and I see the newest version of mine has the 11th generation, which is faster I assume.

Wish mine was as fast as when I BOUGHT it a few months ago. I dont know enough about this stuff to check why it slowed down.

I have

show home button set to google, but if I change it to new tab page I still get the cursor on the search bar and not up in the url

Tabs open up the way I want and open to Google, everything is good but the cursor wont default into the URL...that is the only issue.

Don't touch it or any other computer. Then come back and see if that still happens or bothers you.

I don't use Chrome on this computer, but in Edge and Firefox, when I go to the Google front page my cursor is positioned in the Google search box.

Various other web pages seem to place the cursor where they want it.
