Anyone have an idee if a Mac desktop from the mid 80's is worth anything?

I somehow doubt that there is any value in them apart from curiosity. Not even heavy enough to make a good anchor.

It's like an auto I guess. The actual parts are in totality costing more than the vehicle itself?

(37,397 posts)Check eBay for prices, but only ones labelled ***LIKE NEW*** or ***MINT CONDITION*** will fetch good auction prices. Or label it "not working -- for parts only" and sell if for a fraction of the shipping costs.
ETA: see the above response, posted while I was still typing.

(179 posts)I don't know much about Macs, but I've heard that some of the older ones have software that is permanent and doesn't have to be leased every year. Good for some tasks depending what's installed on it. I think you could install some version of Linux on it, like Ubuntu. It's not hard or expensive to do that and it's relatively user friendly.

(20,546 posts)My IT buddy makes faces when I say I'd like to get it running. It cost $2500 plus back then. What a waste of money.

MHO, hope I'm wrong (if you actually need the money at all).

(123,113 posts)multiple offers. I should have doubled the price but it was my first sale so I did not pick up the cues that it was underpriced.

(2,479 posts)Search eBay for similar items to get some sense of what they are going for. I tried to sell 4 old Mac's last summer and only asked 350 for all four and only got interest from one person who was creepy and I opted to discontinue negotiations with him.

Do you know the specs - OS version, how much memory, Hard Drive size and the like?
I'm not a Mac person, don't know much about them, but still have my first PC (still working!) an IBM PS2 came with Dos 6.0 and I upgraded to Windows 3.0, then 3.1 - 20 meg HD and i meg ram, upgraded from 54k.
