Now what did I did?!

I figure I must have pushed something I shouldn't, wouldn't be the first time.
Anyway, I'm not able to access the functions list (like calendar, calculator, solitair, etc.) The clock is behind, varying between two minutes slow and thirty minutes slow. I'm able to navigate through my mail and the pages in my favorites across the top of the screen, but none of the things across the bottom -- the icons are visible, but nothing happens when I click on them; no Cortana, can't get to my document files, no speaker volume, no access to the shutdown options.
At this point, my nighttime meds are starting to kick in, so I'm not going to try anything further. But I am hoping that I'll still be able to see my pages in the morning, and that someone here will have some guidance. Toshiba satellite laptop, MS Edge.
Thanks in advance, by the way. Fingers crossed!
Update: This morning, turned on computer; it was sluggish, all pages loaded but with no content, then the icons came back; mail began to function, menu items are once more accessible, clock is accurate.
I have absolutely no idea what to think about this. Maybe my computer is on its last legs, or maybe my resident poltergeist is having fun. The only thing I know for sure is that a second cup of coffee is needed. Yeesh.
