asking advice, again FOLLOW UP

Hope I don't post too often, but I get advice I understand that helps me solve my tech problems and I appreciate the replies I get

I have a Dell Latitude laptop. I noticed the bottom of the case was bulging, and realized it was the battery.

I transferred my pictures and files to an ext. HD, then shut down the laptop and unplugged it. I opened the case, and took pictures of the bad battery in place, replaced the cover and ordered a new battery which will be here Wed. I'll be away for a few days, so I won't be able to replace the battery for a week or so.

I wondered if I should shut off the laptop and remove the battery before I leave Tuesday? Or should I remove it right now? Will the laptop operate without the battery if it's plugged in? I've got a tablet I can use, but if I have to, but I like the laptop better.

Many thanks!

I successfully changed the battery in my laptop. I ordered it and it came last week, but I was away from home till Sat. , got to it as soon as I could. Battery was 71% charged when I tested it, and is now 100%. I also cleaned the inside of my laptop while I had it apart.

Thank you for your kind assistance.

Your laptop will work just fine if it is plugged in. It does not need the battery to work.

Yay!

The laptop is running fine. I won't have to worry now till I get home, and it'll be easy to put the new one in.

Thanks for your help, and answering my question so fast.

when I got home today. I was on DU and a message popped up that the laptop was hibernating and locking.
I restarted several times, and then used my tablet to see what I could do. I changed the battery settings, and the power settings. Waiting now to see if it fixed the problem.

If it doesn't, then tomorrow, I'll take the new battery out. I never take the laptop out of the house, or anywhere else in the house, so if it's the new battery causing this problem, at least I tried.
