You press the record button and it just stops after a few seconds?

You’re sure you set to “video” and not some sort of weird burst photo mode?

the length of video you're trying to record? Before I bought more storage space for my phone, I would sometimes have to delete older photos and videos to make room for new ones.

And I record vid for several minutes no problem ( I just tested it)
Check you settings for camera video, mine is set at 1080 @ 30 fps
It’s a space saver mode, I don’t see any setting for time limits

How much free space do you have on the phone ?

Assuming you are properly in video mode, it should be shooting video. The most likely 2 problems then are memory issues. Either your phone is storing it in iCloud, or it’s storing it on the phone is you have iCloud turned off (which I always do - being dependent on the cloud for anything is unwise). Either way, there may be insufficient memory left if you’ve had a ton of photos and videos. You might want to double check that.
