How to get Firefox to spellcheck the subject line

http://4paisa.blogspot.com/2008/02/firefox-spell-check-single-line-text.html

Firefox: Spell Check Single line text boxes also

Firefox comes with spell checker which checks for spelling errors in the multi line text boxes. You can make Firefox to spell check single line text boxes also like email subject lines, etc by changing config entry.

Type about:config in a new tab, then go to the key layout.spellcheckDefault. It's value is 1 by default, which means spell check multi line text boxes only.

0 - Disable Spell check.
1 - Check multi line text boxes only.
2 - Check all text boxes, including single line text boxes.

Change the key value to 2. No more spelling errors in the email subject lines.

I was thinking maybe a titled 'helps and hints' with the posts of 'helps and hints' in it but I should have been more clear.
It's a good thing I don't write for a living... oh wait... I do.

...but thanks to the topic compelling my ill fated thoughts leading to these thoughts at least "caffeinated" is spelled correctly.

Well HH, let me spellit-outforya:

1- write a post titled "Helps and Hints"
2- add some blather in the message text to encourage other to reply to it adding their "Helps and Hints"
3- pin that sucker

PS - I read Dilbert and you may, some day, fly in something I worked on.

Then the initial posts could be:

  • FireFox
  • Chrome
  • Internet Explorer
  • Safari
  • Opera
  • Other Browsers
  • General / Miscellaneous

Then people could post their tips as replies to the appropriate category (and be banned from the Group for not posting in the correct location ).

Well, it works, even if the site is squirrelly.

19. tried it again just now

It would only check the subject/reply line but it would not do a spell check in the text box even though it show that the word "squirrelly", is misspelled.

I'd rather have it check in the text box and correct it than the subject/reply area.

Who knows the reality of this? I did not get the message when I tried it again btw. ????

Bravely I followed your directions....
Hit about:config and a window popped up in BOLD, warning me I could invalidate my warranty.

Ha! No trepidation for me...we have home built puters....and Linux at that!

So made the change, and it works.

Color me happy.

I am on satellite internet on a rather restricted data plan. Videos on DU used to note auto load and play but I've had several do just that eating up my data.
