Scam alert - Offer for cheap version of Microsoft Office
Earlier today I posted a CNET article about an offer from StackSocial to purchase Microsoft Office for $30. It sure looks like that offer is a scam.
Apologies to everyone. I'll try to exercise a little more due diligence before posting.
Thank you to Effete Snob for their research and heads up.

On edit:
Not everyone agrees that this is a scam, see below. Everyone can decide for themselves (obviously?).

(16,245 posts)I was sending out some emails to folks that I knew had seen my first post. I would have sent one to you, except that I saw by your post edit that you had already gotten the warning.
So sorry.

(10,887 posts)I have Microsoft office on my laptops and PC thanks to previous availabilities of that offer, and so do several people I know.
ETA: The license is a genuine MS Office license.
ETA 2#: No unauthorized charges were made to my credit card after my purchases.

(16,245 posts)Thanks for sharing your experience.
There do seem to be quite a few complaints about it, though:

I guess folks can do their own due diligence and decide for themselves. That's not intended in the least to be dismissive of your experience, which is at least as valuable a data point as those at the the links, if not more.
